Why go

This is the first time the full body of collected material has been shown publicly. Hazara's work documents the material remnants of the 20-year Afghanistan war through everyday objects left behind after the American military's abrupt 2021 withdrawal, offering a tangible archaeology of what conflict leaves in its wake.

What to expect

Hundreds of cataloged items—kneepads, uniforms, exercise equipment, tents, kitchenware, electronics, and fragments of infrastructure—displayed as a durational engagement with return and the legacies of US military intervention. The exhibition transforms debris into a record of life in a military outpost.

• Artist born 1992 in Wardak, Afghanistan; works across photography, video, sound, and multimedia installation.
• Work held in collections of Tate Modern, Guggenheim Abu Dhabi, SMAK Ghent, and Carnegie Museum of Art.
• Exhibited at 58th Carnegie International (2022), 22nd Biennale of Sydney (2020), and 16th Sharjah Biennial (2025).
