Gehry's animal-themed sculptures and works on paper, from monumental fish and bear forms to intimate ink drawings, spanning two decades of formal invention.

This is the first exhibition since Gehry's death in 2025, realized in collaboration with his family and studio. It traces his obsession with animal forms—especially fish—as both autonomous sculptures and recurring motifs in his architectural practice, from the Walt Disney Concert Hall to the Guggenheim Abu Dhabi opening this year.

What to expect

Life-size stainless steel and Formica sculptures including the polished-metal Bear with Us (2014) and illuminated crocodile and fish forms; ten ink, watercolor, and acrylic works on paper capturing fish in gestural line and color; and functional objects like papier-mâché snake lamps from 1989.

Things to know

• First exhibition since Gehry's passing in 2025, designed by the Gehry studio in collaboration with his family.
• Bear with Us (2014) was the basis for a Louis Vuitton clutch bag designed by Gehry in 2023.
• Fish sculptures employ ColorCore Formica, stainless steel wire, and LED lights; Fish on Fire (2023) is the last fish rendered in copper.
• The fish form recurs throughout Gehry's architectural oeuvre, evident in buildings like the 2003 Walt Disney Concert Hall and the Guggenheim
• Exhibition includes works spanning 2013–2023, from the London and Hong Kong series to recent standing fish and watercolor studies.
• A Pair of Snake Lamps (1989) combines gouache-painted papier-mâché with illumination, merging decorative and functional design.
