Photobooks USA 2000–25

Over 50 photobooks from 2000–25 examining how artists have used the form to respond to contemporary American life, from social and political upheaval to environmental and economic change.

Why go

Rather than canonizing bestsellers or award-winners, the exhibition assembles a deliberately inclusive cross-section—spanning out-of-print titles and recent landmarks—that treats the photobook as a primary vehicle for artistic circulation and cultural witness across the twenty-first century.

What to expect

An exhibition of over 50 photobooks spanning 25 years, presented as physical objects and organized thematically around artistic, social, cultural, political, environmental, and economic conversations shaping the United States.

• Curated by ICP Creative Director David Campany, Associate Director Sara Ickow, and Curatorial Assistant malaika newsome.
• Features 50+ photobooks ranging from out-of-print titles to recent landmark publications.
• Includes work by Alec Soth, Taryn Simon, LaToya Ruby Frazier, An-My Lê, and 50+ other photographers and artists.
• Exhibition runs June 11–September 28, 2026 at ICP's main location (84 Ludlow Street).
• Support provided by the National Endowment for the Arts and major donors including Michael Clinton and Caryl Englander.
