Sarah Lucas's inaugural public plaza sculpture celebrates women claiming space in public life, on view for two years at the New Museum's Bowery expansion.

Why go

Lucas was selected by an all-artist jury (Fernández, Jonas, Mehretu, Sherman, Smith) as the first of five rotating commissions over a decade. Her practice has long used irreverent humor and everyday readymades—furniture, food, tights, toilets—to conjure corporeal fragments and interrogate the body.

What to expect

A monumental outdoor sculpture installed in the New Museum's newly created public plaza at Bowery and Prince Street, part of the OMA-designed building expansion. The work will remain on view for two years.
