What to expect

A comprehensive survey across multiple gallery spaces featuring upholstered seating, sculptural lamps, ceramic works, and paintings; the show transforms on May 20th to include collaborative ceramics by Satan Ceramics collective (Sachs, Mary Frey, JJ Peet, Pat McCarthy, Luc Hammond-Thomas, and Shoko Suzuki).

Things to know

• Sachs studied under designer Tom Dixon at the Architectural Association in London in 1987, learning bricolage from salvaged street materials
• He spent two years in Frank Gehry's Los Angeles furniture shop, where Gehry developed his bent plywood chair series for Knoll.
• New exclusive colors of the Shop Chair—Snappy Blue and Black—debut in this exhibition.
• Satan Ceramics, the collaborative group, first showed together over a decade ago at Salon 94.
• The exhibition opens with Walnut Jeanneret Tables hosting ceramic works by Japanese ceramist Shoko Suzuki.
• Sachs traces his lineage through Gehry, Eames, Noguchi, Brancusi, and Rodin, viewing furniture and sculpture as a single unbroken practice.
